History of Yorkview Kids Care

Yorkview Kids Care was established in 1987 as a non-profit school-based childcare centre to meet the growing needs of the families in the community.

Centre’s Growth and Development

  • The Centre is located in Yorkview Public School, providing a convenient and safe environment for children.
  • Initially, the centre operated with two spacious classrooms and offered before and after school full-day kindergarten programs in shared kindergarten classrooms.
  • Over time, the centre has expanded to offer additional programs, including school-age programs in the teachers’ staffroom and access to the gymnasiums, outdoor courtyards, and library.

Unique Features and Benefits

  • The centre’s location within the school eliminates additional travel for children attending Yorkview Public School.
  • The Pre-school and Kindergarten playground is fully fenced in for safety and convenience, and the school-age children enjoy a range of outdoor facilities, including a baseball diamond, large field, school playscape, and pavement.

Governance and Management

  • A Board of Directors manages Yorkview Kids Care, consisting of parent and community members elected each year at the Annual General Meeting.
  • The principal of Yorkview P.S. or a designate serves as a liaison between the school and childcare, ensuring effective communication and collaboration.

Commitment to Quality and Excellence

  • The centre adheres to the requirements of the Early Years Act, The Toronto Children’s Services Assessment for Quality Improvement, and Toronto Public Health regulations, ensuring a safe and nurturing environment for children.
  • Yorkview Kids Care is committed to offering affordable childcare with qualified and caring staff members.
