Yorkview Kids Care provides a healthy, safe, enriched, inclusive and nurturing environment in which every child’s play is fostered through exploration and inquiry.
We believe that children grow and flourish under four foundational conditions; Belonging, Well-being, Engagement and Expression. All children are valued and we view children as competent, capable, active and curious learners.
An emphasis is put on the physical and mental health of children. We encourage and incorporate principles of self-care and help children to gain a sense of self. Children are given the opportunity to participate in physical indoor and outdoor activities.
We encourage problem solving and creative thinking, and challenge children to explore their environment and world through their natural curiosity. Children’s experiences are observed and documented. Staff reflects and shares findings with parents.
Children are viewed as capable communicators. We provide opportunities to foster co-operation, respect, kindness and compassion for others. Children are encouraged to communicate in all forms.
Child guidance includes positive re-enforcement, and assisting the children to manage their emotional needs by helping them recognize and reduce stressors. Guidance is based on the staff’s knowledge of child development. We focus on self-regulation skills and believe in building a child’s resilience.
In recognizing and supporting the close ties between the child and family, we believe children are best understood in the context of their family, culture and society. A school-based child care centre provides consistency for the child, and the opportunity for an ongoing connection between the parents/caregivers, school, community and child care.
